Other learning styles models, besides the Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Tactile model, explore additional learner preferences or dimensions. These other models can be valuable for refining your teaching skills and optimizing your child's ability to learn.

The Dunn and Dunn learning styles inventory which considers a person's environmental, emotional, physiological, psychological, and social preferences. This model is an excellent model for considering all aspects of your child's personality, to ensure an ideal learning environment. These learning dimensions, or preferences, can make the difference between a functional, or non-functional learning environment.

Another widely accepted learning styles model is the "Multiple Intelligences" model created by Howard Gardner which classifies learners by their strengths in nine areas:

  • Linguistic Intelligence
  • Logical/Mathematical Intelligence
  • Musical Rhythmic Intelligence
  • Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence
  • Spatial Intelligence
  • Naturalist Intelligence
  • Intrapersonal Intelligence
  • Interpersonal Intelligence
  • Existential Intelligence

You may want to explore this model further. Additional information can be found at the Public Broadcasting System's web page regarding the Multiple Intelligences Theory (opens in new window).
