Q: We just moved. My child used to be covered under our old state's 504 plans. Where can I find information about 504 requirements in my new state?

Answer:

504 is a subpart of the American Disabilities Act and it provides for accomodations and accessibility nationwide. The other aspects of public education are dictated by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and it governs specific requirements for schools to meet the needs of children with disabilities including learning disabilities. It is also a federal law that stands in every state.

There is a short, free online course at:
http://www.learningabledkids.com/IEP_training/welcome.htm
which will familiarize you with IDEA and special education requirements, if you're interested. ;-)

Best Wishes,
Sandy
